Memorial service held for veteran journalist

The South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) organised a memorial service at the SAFMA Secretariat on Monday for veteran journalist Khalid Hassan, who died from prostate cancer in February 2009 in Washington.
Close friends, intellectuals, and leading journalists attended the service and paid tributes to the legendry journalist for his profound understanding of political developments, accurate observation of personalities and human character and his impeccable command over the Urdu and English languages.
His colleagues recalled their close association with Hassan and called him a champion of freedom of journalism in Pakistan. They said that despite living in Washington for the last two decades, he had continued to serve as an influential voice of the Pakistani people in and outside Pakistan.
