The zeal with which the envoy of Argentina Rodolfo J. Martin Saravia promotes art and culture in the federal capital deserves plaudits. This man is found wherever an intercontinental cultural event takes place. The embassy of the Argentina in association with Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA), and Ministry of National Heritage and Integration arranged a ‘Tango’ music performance that proved to be the event of the season in the capital as the performers replicated the great work of Carlos Gardel, Mariano Mores, Osvaldo Pugliese and Ástor Piazzolla – the great composers and performers in the history of Argentina with sheer brilliance.
With an attempt to strengthen diplomatic relations between Islamabad and Buenos Aires, via introducing Argentinean Tango performances rendered by Rodolfo Gorosito, Jose Cataldi, and Armando de la Vega, the event enthralled audiences of all ages. A number of people from various embassies in Islamabad, diplomats, bureaucrats, foreigners, art lovers, students and a large gathering of Argentinean community residing in town attended the glitzy event. For the entertainment-starved dwellers of the capital city, the live tango concert was like a breath of fresh winter air for the audience. Argentinean ambassador Rodolfo J Martin-Saravia was among the viewers who lauded the performance of the Argentinean guitar trio at the elegantly designed auditorium of PNCA. He praised the performance of artists and termed it a way forward in establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries using art as a medium.
Federal Secretary of the National Heritage and Integration ministry, Fareedullah Khan, was the chief guest on the occasion while Tauqeer Nasir, the Director General PNCA was also present. The artist trio of Rodolfo Gorosito, Jose Cataldi, and Armando de la Vega, presented 15 compositions to introduce the soul-soothing Argentinean classical music to the locals that is praised all over the world. But, for the Pakistani audiences it was the first opportunity in over six decades. The lyrics and music merged in the composition emanated feelings of nostalgia – through melodic instrumental tunes and symphonies.
The performers presented a number of compositions including A San Telmo (Grela/Ayala), Maria (Troilp/Castillo), Sur (troilo/Manzi), Fuimos (Dames/Manzi), Golondrinas (Gardel/Le Pera), Marioneta (Guichandut/Tagini), Taquito Militar (Mores), Luna de arrabal, Sanders/Gadicamo), Malena (Demare/Manzi), La cachila (Arolas), Chau Osvaldo (JVjederos), Boedo (De Caro/Gomila), Milonga triste (Piana/Manzi), Gallo ciego (Bardi), and A fuego lento (Salgan). Adorned in black suites, Rodolfo Gorosito, Jose Cataldi, Armando de la Vega took the audience to taste the Latin American nostalgic aroma. Even those who were not familiar with Tango music, found it deeply profound.
Speaking on the occasion, the Argentinean envoy Rodolfo J Martin-Saravia said that he has been struggling to bridge cultural ties between the two countries since his arrival in Islamabad, and would continue to do so. “Music is the language that has no barriers, and directly communicates the essence of the heart and the soul,” the envoy explained. “This medium overcomes the ethnic and linguistic barriers to promote peace and harmony among nations.”
Federal Secretary Fareedullah Khan assured the Argentinean envoy of the Pakistan government’s continued cooperation to promote cultural ties between the people of two nations.
