Two impostors arrested

Rawalpindi police have arrest two impostors involved in extorting money from people on the pretext of providing PTCL’s DSL and Smart TV services while pretending to be employees of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) here the other day. The two culprits were arrested by the Airport Police Station on the complaint of Ashfaq Khattak who was offered a Blackberry set on subscribing to PTCL’s DSL and Smart TV services through telephone calls made from various numbers.
Duped by the fraud scam, the complainant had initially paid Rs 1500 to the fraudsters. After receiving his complaint, the concerned SDO of PTCL asked him to invite the caller and his group members to his address and a trap was set for them in coordination with the local police.
The fraudsters were arrested on the spot and an FIR was also registered against them with Airport Police Station. Fake PTCL customer forms were also recovered from the culprits’ possession. According to PTCL officials, fraudulent activities by nefarious elements in the company’s name had been on the rise in recent months. PTCL has been taking frequent measures to alert its innocent customers and general public against such frauds. Through public notices and press releases in the national media, PTCL has been cautioning its customers and the general public alike to be vigilant of such fraudulent and deceptive activities. The PTCL officials say only authorised franchises and designated numbers should be used to subscribe to PTCL products and services.
