National Women’s Netball begins

The 10th National Women’s Netball Championship commenced here at the Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS) on Monday. Vice Chancellor LUMS Syed Babar Ali inaugurated the championship. Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) President Zafar Iqbal, secretary Muddassar Arain, IOC member in Pakistan Syed Shahid Ali, Punjab Netball Association (PNA) president Syed Shaharyar Ali and secretary Chaudhry Rizwan were also present on the occasion. During the opening ceremony, a renowned music band presented national anthem on flute and then girls performed aerobics. The captain of all teams also took oath and then championship was formally announced opened. As many as five matches were played on the first day. In the first match of the day, Sindh defeated Balochistan 9-3.
Ayesha was top for Sindh team. In the second match, Army crushed Islamabad 28-0. Amama Qadri and Quratul Ain were top scorers for Army. In the third match, WAPDA beat Khyber PK by 17-6 as Robina of WAPDA was top scorer. In the fourth match of the day, Punjab edged out LUMS by 6-2 as Sadad top scored for Punjab. In the fifth match of the LGS thrashed FATA by 2-0 and Mahnoor of LGS was the top performer. Talking on the occasion, Syed Shaharyar Ali said that he was assigned the Netball assignment and he was trying hard to boost the game across the Punjab.
