Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Tuesday announced to set up a separate investigation elite unit and prosecution wing in Islamabad police for speedy probe into cases of crime of heinous nature as well as trial of criminals through collection of strong evidences. He made this announcement here while addressing the passing out parade of 15th lower course batch of Islamabad police. A total of 283 constables including 19 lady constables and kids of martyred personnel passed this course.
The passing out ceremony was attended by Chief Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Mehmood Pirzada, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan, DIG (Headquarters) Ahmed Mukaram, DIG (Security) Dr Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, AIG (Operations) Dr Sultan Azam Temuri and others. A smartly turned out contingent of Islamabad police presented guard of honor to the interior minister who also observed the parade along with the IGP Islamabad. The minister said a separate investigation unit as well as prosecution wing will be provided all possible resources, and the officers working there will be given one-step higher rank on the basis of their professional capabilities.
He also issued directions on the spot to the authorities of police foundation to complete necessary work at the earliest in launching housing scheme for low cadre employees. He also announced to recruit another 5,000 personnel in Islamabad police after approval in the upcoming budget.
IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan in his welcome address said that several courses were being conducted to improve the skills of policemen. “We are determined to improve the performance of police and also to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens,” he said.
At the end, Rehman Malik distributed prizes among the position holders of various categories in the course. All round first position was secured by Constable Muhammad Imran while Constable Muhammad Shabbir was declared first position holder in `Best in fire’ category. Lady Constable Zahida Barkat achieved first `Best in Parade’ award and Constable Sajid Hussain won `Best in Academics’ award.
The minister also announced to award Rs 50,000 to the distinguished position holders and also asked IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan to promote Sub-Inspector Azeem Shah of `Police Band’ to the rank of Inspector.
