A scuffle took place between doctors and attendants at the Children’s Hospital on Monday over the death of an infant who allegedly died because of doctors’ negligence. Pakistan Today learnt that one and a half year old Saad Shabbir was brought to the Children’s Hospital on Monday. According to the minor’s father, he had caught a cough and was experiencing weakness. “The doctors administered IV fluids to Saad after which he fell unconscious. The doctors later pronounced him dead,” his father said. Harsh words were exchanged between the doctors and the child’s attendants followed by a scuffle, during which a female doctor was also hit.
The deceased father denied that any member of his family had hit the doctor. The matter was resolved a few hours after the police reached the spot. Children’s Hospital MD Dr Ahsan Rathore however dispelled the allegation of negligence and said the infant was admitted with a heart problem and that the heart specialist examined him. He said the doctors also tried to resuscitate the boy but failed to revive him. He said the scuffle took place because the attendants hit a female doctor on duty, but the matter had now been resolved now, he added.
