The former Pakistan captain, Aamer Sohail is all praise for Pakistan’s young batsmen. He singled out Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq, and feels that the two players have grown from boys to men in the series against England in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Pakistan has done an exceptional job in the Test series against England. The most heartening thing for Pakistan cricket in the series against England has been the fact that almost all the players have made crucial contributions. Batsmen from both teams have struggled in the series but Pakistan’s two young-guns have played crucial little cameos in the series. Their partnership in the second innings of the Abu Dhabi Test turned out to be a match-winning one. While speaking to Pakpassion, Sohail praised the maturity of Azhar and Asad and said that this augurs well for the future of Pakistan cricket. Aamer said, “During the course of the Abu Dhabi Test match Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq grew from being boys to men, in terms of International cricket. They coped well with the pressure and they both approached their innings very well.” Azhar scored his second Test hundred of his career in the second innings of the third Test. He and Asad scored valiant half-centuries in the Abu Dhabi Test, which set the platform for Pakistan’s win. However, former Pakistan captain is still happy with the crucial knocks of the two youngsters. “Neither went on to make a big score but their contributions really affected the result of the second Test match. Their combined effort and partnership was more important than an individual hundred.”
