PML-N denies selling Senate tickets

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday denied allegations that the party was selling Senate tickets for millions of rupees saying that such allegations hold no ground and are aimed at spoiling the party’s reputation.
“Had we brokered a deal for the Senate polls, we would have carried it out with the PPP to get candidates elected unopposed instead of selling Senate tickets to PML-Q Likeminded leaders Humayun Akhtar and Haroon Akhtar,” a senior PML-N leader told Pakistan Today. Punjab government spokesman Pervaiz Rashid said that the PML-N’s track record mirrored its mindset and policy.
“We never believe in sale and purchase of Senate tickets. The PML-N is a democratic party and promotes only democratic norms,” he said. “None of the present PML-N senators including Mushahidullah, Zafarullah Shah, Pervaiz Rashid, Najma Hameed and Raja Zafarul Haq were rich but selected for the Upper House. If money had been the criteria, they would not have been awarded Senate tickets,” he said. On the Supreme Court’s (SC) ruling suspending the membership of 28 parliamentarians until passage of the 20th Constitutional Amendment, Rashid said that although no PML-N legislator was affected but it respected the judgment.
