The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed the bail plea of former religious affairs joint secretary Raja Aftab-ul-Islam who is behind bars for his alleged involvement in the Hajj corruption case. Justice Anwar Khan Kasi was hearing the case in which Ahmed Khan Gondal advocate contended that though his client had been behind bars for one year, the the FIA had neither completed the inquiry nor had it submitted the complete challan. He contended that there was no likelihood of the trial to conclude in the near future and the circumstances attracted the provisions of subsection (1) of Section 497 of CrPC under which his client was entitled to bail.
A deputy attorney general (DAG) contended that the case of Rao Shakeel was under trial in the Lahore High Court (LHC) owing to which the FIA could not release Raja. After hearing the arguments, the IHC rejected his bail petition.
