There will be no relief in loadshedding on Eid Miladun-Nabi as Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) and Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) have prepared no plan for providing uninterrupted power supply on the day, Pakistan Today has learnt reliably. Though there could be relief of three to four hours on Sunday evening but during the day outages would continue as usual. The federal and provincial governments announced public holiday on Saturday in connection with Eid Milad-un-Nabi and all the government offices and markets remained closed. Although power production dropped considerably, there was no relief in loadshedding. The outages started on early Saturday morning and continued the whole day. Lesco and Pepco officials said both the companies had devised no plan for providing relief to the people on Eid Milad-un-Nabi. The high-ups were least bothered for reducing or ending loadshedding on this holy day, they added. “The power demand reduced sharply on Friday and Saturday as markets and offices remained closed,” said an official of Lesco, adding the markets at Hall Road, Liberty Market and Ichhra were partially closed and there was no significant increase in the power demand. “The consumers can have at least one day without loadshedding if Lesco and Pepco manage things properly,” he said. “The officials have always an excuse of illumination of buildings for loadshedding but the power which is consumed in illumination is far less than the power consumed on routine days by the offices and markets,” he added. The consumers said Lesco should provide them relief at least on the holy day of Eid Milad-un-Nabi. “It comes once in a year and Lesco should show some respect for the day through better management of power crisis,” said a housewife Fareeda Nasir. Lesco Public Relations Additional Director Javed Ahmed Khan said loadshedding would be carried out as per schedule and there would be no sudden and unexpected outages.
