Protesters pelt police after ‘encounter’

Relatives of Asif Gujjar, shot dead by Lytton Road Police in an alleged encounter, pelted a police team led by SP Iqbal Town Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani on Friday during a protest to demand action against responsible police officials. After receiving Asif’s body, relatives and Sodiwal locals reached Chappar Stop on Multan Road and placed Asif’s body in the middle of the road and blocked the road for 3 hours.
Talking to media, Asif’s wife Lubna said Asif’s bullet alone could not have killed Asif. She said Asif was talking when a policeman and doctor entered in his room and asked the family to leave. “When they came out, they announced Asif was dead,” she said, “They injected him with poison.” Asif’s brother Kashif said Asif was carrying a licensed pistol due to an old enmity. He said when a policeman signalled Asif, he did not stop fearing it was one of their rivals. The protest ended after SP Iqbal Town Qaisrani assured them that a case will be registered against responsible policemen.
