The Lahore Transport Company (LTC) is increasing the number of standardised buses on each route of the city in accordance with the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, LTC Chairman and Advisor to CM Khawaja Ahmed Hassan said on Friday.
Speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the addition of refurbished buses on Route 33 at Railway Station, the LTC chairman said that the LTC had provided a suitable environment for local and foreign investment in the urban transport sector, adding that the local and foreign urban transport companies were reposing confidence in the policies of the Punjab government. LTC Chief Executive Haidar Latif, LTC general managers and other senior officers were also present at the occasion.
The LTC chairman said that the addition of refurbished buses on the Railway Station-Green Town route would provide efficient and affordable transport facilities to the public.
He said that the Pink Bus, dedicated for women, would also be plied on the said route, adding that under a phased programme, new and refurbished buses will be provided on all routes of the city.
Hassan said that the LTC was implementing refurbishment scheme of buses successfully. As a first step, 44 buses have been refurbished and Rs 4 million has been spent on each bus under this scheme, he added.
He said that the LTC was playing an effective role in the planning, facilitation and regulation of the urban transport sector, adding that 100 new buses would be available at the end of February, 2012.
