Cop among three killed… despite safety measures

Despite the Sindh government’s strict safety measures to maintain peace in Karachi so the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) could be celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere, three citizens, including a police constable, were gunned down on Friday, while four others suffered bullet wounds.
Police said constable Sajid Hussain was travelling with his friend in a car when two motorcyclists intercepted the vehicle near the Sultanabad area of Manghopir and opened fire on it, killing Hussain on the spot. The constable’s body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), while his friend remained unharmed, the police added. Manghopir police termed the incident one of targeted killing, and said investigation into the murder is underway.
Separately, a young boy was shot dead on the main University Road in the Mobina Town police precincts. Police said two culprits opened fire on 25-year-old Irfan Muhammad Jatoi at a bus stop near the Samama Shopping Centre located opposite the Safari Park. Jatoi was killed on the spot, and his body was shifted to the CHK, the police added.
In another incident, a man was shot dead at the Malir Bridge on the Superhighway in the Gadap police precincts. Police termed the incident one of robbery, and said three culprits opened fire on and killed Munir Hussain. However, sources said Hussain was targeted because he belonged to the Urdu-speaking community.
INJURED: Three Pashtuns were critically wounded when two culprits opened fire on them at a roadside hotel in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police said two motorcyclists opened fire on Azam Khan, Qamar and Hussain while they were having tea at the New Quetta Apna Hotel located at the main Jauhar Chowrangi. The injured men were immediately taken to the Patel Hospital, the police added.
Separately, a woman was injured when fleeing bandits opened haphazard fire in a very busy Jodia Bazaar. Police said three bandits were robbing a shop named Hussain Hardware located on the Tapal Tea Street in Jodia Bazaar. The culprits opened haphazard fire while they were escaping, injuring a bystander identified as Sakina Ali Asghar who was shifted to the CHK, the police added.
SUICIDE: A young boy killed himself in the Sharafi Goth police precincts. Police said Muhammad Anees Dada Khan committed suicide by shooting himself over a hitherto unascertained reason.
