A Pakistan International Airline (PIA) crew member was jailed for 32 months over charges of smuggling dozens of counterfeit passports and fake passport materials into the UK.
Asif Haroon, 41, from Lahore, was arrested by UK Border Agency officers as he passed through the crew clearance controls at Heathrow on November 25, 2011.
He had arrived as a steward on a Pakistan International Airlines flight from Karachi, official sources said.
Concealed under his clothes, Haroon was found to be carrying an envelope containing 39 Pakistani passports with counterfeit bio-data pages or with bio-data pages removed, around 250 counterfeit UK residence permits and a range of counterfeit UK passport components including bio-data pages, laminates and holograms.
Haroon admitted he knew what was in the package and admitted being paid around 800 pounds for smuggling the items, the sources said.
He later pleaded guilty to charges of possessing false identity documents and possessing articles for making false identity documents.
During a hearing at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday, he was sentenced to 32 months in prison, and was recommended for deportation following his sentence.
Senior investigating officer Charlie Monks, from the UK Border Agency’s Heathrow criminal and financial investigation team, said: “Haroon sought to abuse his position as a crew member, thinking that UK Border Agency officers would pay less attention to airline staff.

main purpose for Pakistani job is not to serve for real job but look at options available to exploit to make money! most crew relies on their mini smuggling trips to and from the country, be it few iPhones or other item to Pakistan or bringing saleable from Pakistan to other countries. If they dont do it, they believe its not worth doing this job and they dont earn anything!
When PIA is headed by corrupt MDs like Aijaz Haroon and Nadeem Yousafzai, with equally corrupt DMDs like Saleem Sayani and Imran Ahmed Khan and a controversial Chairman known for financial and moral irregularities, and Board of Directors with most corrupt former bureaucrats like Capt Naseem than its crew members cannot be expected not to indulge in smuggling. what can you expect with precedents like Aijaz Haroon re-inducting his brother-in-law and than promoting him although he had been caught red handed and convicted for stealing at Dubai Duty Free Shops.
This staff is doing the similar thing what the President and Prime minister of pakistan are doing. What do expect when PM and President are role model. I will not be surprised if Zordari has cut in maney made by these people. He get %age of any corruption committed. GOD HELP PAKISTAN and also PIA

When people like Irshad Bhatti and Khalid Memon work at passport head office in Islamabad, such news is expected. Everyone knows Irshad Bhatti and his team is the most corrupt, providing fake passports and corruption in the department. They generate heavy incomes daily around 5 million a day. Everyone arrests the agents but not the reall culprits who provide sheltor to these agents. Irshad Bhatti even took money from me for processing my genuine passport. He then orders his staff to get it processed urgently. Sometimes the staff is aware and sometimes they don’t know. Please take action against this man and his team. I request the home department of the country to take strict action against the reall culprit and set an example.
