The Lahore High Court (LHC) has accepted for hearing an application challenging the increase in Haj expenses and issued notices to Secretary Ministry of Religious Affairs and Deputy Attorney General for 10th February, 2012.
When the LHC started the hearing of the case, Azhar Siddiqi, counsel for the petitioner, argued that the government has increased the Haj expenses to such an extent that a common man was unable to perform the religious duty.
He said the increase in Haj expenses was unjustified and without any valid reasons. He also submitted that the Ministry of Religious Affairs was giving Haj quota to people of its choice. He, therefore, requested the court that the parties to the case be asked to explain the reasons for increase in Haj expenses as well as provide details of Haj quota.
