Pakistan has unique geographical and strategic geo-political location and considered to be a hub of trade in South Asia.
These remarks were made by Yassir Sakhi Butt, president, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), addressing a dinner hosted by ICCI in honour of ambassadors and high commissioners.
The ambassadors and high commissioners of the United States, France, Japan, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, Algeria, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belgium, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Tunisia, Poland, Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, Finland, Romania and Uzbekistan participated in the dinner.
The ICCI president said Pakistan was adopting a strategic approach to increase its exports in neighboring markets and was also holding single country exhibitions, trade shows, seminars and food festivals for creating demands and opportunities for Pakistani products in these markets.
He said Pakistan’s economy was offering great investment potential in various sectors like energy, exploration of minerals, oil & gas, textiles, IT, financial services, real-estate development, mass transit, communication network, automobile, and agro-based industry.
He expressed the hope that in the coming years, Pakistan’s bilateral relations with regional and intra-regional countries would further improve.
Yassir Sakhi Butt asked foreign embassies in Pakistan to play their active role for bringing the business communities closer and identifying the areas of cooperation. Market analysis, rules and regulations, emerging business opportunities and information about various exhibitions, conferences and seminars should be shared with the chambers and associations across Pakistan, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, ICCI Diplomatic Sub Committee Chairman Khalid Malik said globalisation had brought the world economies closer by eliminating trade barriers and this factor had accelerated the pace of trade activities among the countries.
The ambassadors and high commissioners who attended the dinner assured the ICCI of their support and cooperation for enhancing political, commercial and economic relations between Pakistan and the countries of their accreditation.
