EU team leader calls for protecting IP rights

Team Leader of Experts for European Union (EU) Thierry Noyelle visited Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO) headquarters on Thursday and met IPO-Pakistan Director General Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta.
Talking on the occasion, the IPO Director General underlined the importance of IP rights and stated that a comprehensive programme was being implemented to create awareness about the protection of IP rights among the masses besides developing linkages between inventors and industry to promote creations and innovations.
He was of the view that a number of projects were also being implemented for capacity building and training of enforcement partners. Similarly, agreements were being signed between IPO, educational institutions and stakeholders to promote research and business-friendly environment in the country, he added.
The ongoing Trade Related Technical Assistance (TRTA-II) Programe was discussed on the occasion and the progress of different aspects relating to automation and capacity building of IP experts was also elaborated by the IP officers during a briefing. The Director General said service delivery system regarding registration of IP rights could be further improved after studying successful IP models of different countries.
Thierry Novelle termed the implementation on TRTA prrogramme satisfactory and appreciated the integrated IP Management System in Pakistan which had provided better facilities to the IP right owners.
IPO Executive Director Umar Dad Afridi and Directors Meesaq Arif and Dr Muhammad Khurram, and other IP Officers and experts were also present on the occasion.
