Affected by Kasur district’s recruitment committee, scores of candidates staged a protest demonstration outside the Kasur Education Complex on Friday against the alleged violation of merit in the process for selecting secondary school educators.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Afzal, Ahtshamul Haq, Imran Afzal, Shakeel Ahmed, Amin Arif and Naveed Akhtar said the EDO education violated the merit policy and change the merit list of pre-selected candidates for the post of secondary school educator (Bio-Chemistry) BS-16.
They said the Punjab Education Department had advertised the post of science teachers, mentioning that only those candidates were eligible for the post of SSE (Bio-Chemistry) BPS-16 who had studied botany, zoology and chemistry in BSc and had a master’s degree in biology or chemistry.
After the interview process, a list of twelve candidates had been displayed on the notice board at EDO office in accordance with the recruitment policy 2011.
According to advertisement, nine candidates of the twelve would be appointed for the said post in Kasur.
“But, it is unfortunate that only two candidates in the list put up were called for appointment,” the protesters said.
They said the EDO office had filled the remaining seven posts by candidates whose names had not been displayed on the pre-selected merit list.
Due to favouritism and political pressure, the candidates disqualified were called for interview again. However, the recruitment committee had again declared the candidates disqualified.
On Friday, the affected candidates staged a protest and sit-in outside the EDO office.
They said the EDO had appointed those candidates for the posts who had been disqualified by the recruitment committee and the EDO itself.
They said the EDO had refused to provide a justification for not calling the successful candidates.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Kasur DCO Ahsan Waheed said the EDO education could better explain the development, adding that the affected candidates should complain before the Lahore commissioner’s office and the Lahore High Court for resolving their grievances. EDO Iftikhar Hassan Butt refused to give his comments.
