The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir said on Tuesday that the Lahore Police had devised a comprehensive security plan for Eid Milad-ul-Nabi (P.B.U.H) and Kashmir Solidarity Day. The CCPO said more than 8,000 police officers would be deployed on Sunday. He also directed that special surveillance and checking be conducted of all the hotels, guest houses and bus stands to eliminate any security threat. He directed further that effective arrangements be made to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow on the occasion. Tahir added that the police would remain on high alert to maintain peace in the provincial metropolis.
Tahir said check-points will be established on all the entry and exit points of the city. He added that crises management centers had been established in the city, which would function round the clock, while a special control room had also been set up in the CCPO office for facilitating coordination between the various agencies. The CCPO informed that the security plan was chalked out after consultation with the city’s leaders. He stated that the divisional SPs had been directed to check the deployment and patrolling of the mobile squads in their respective areas. Tahir said he would make surprise inspections in order to review the security arrangements.
100 Model police stations to be completed by March: Steering Committee for Model Police Stations Project Chairman, MNA Ahsan Iqbal said 100 model police stations will be completed by 23 March. He said: “Model Police Stations must embody the principle of community policing through better training and performance. It was decided that the model police stations will be equipped with modern policing tools. The Chief Minister approved Rs 600 million for the project.” Later, chairing the meeting of the Institutional Reforms Group (IRG) he said: “Social services have to be devolved at the district level for efficient and effective service delivery.”
It was decided in the meeting that the District Education Authority (DEA) draft bill will be finalised within one week. The District Education Authority will delegate the district level functions to professional management to supervise and promote excellence in public sector schools.
