Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said that Islamabad would continue to support an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process of reconciliation which would not cause instability in Pakistan. A delegation of Afghan senators led by Fazal-e-Hadi Muslimyar called on Gilani at the Prime Minister’s House and emphasised on exchanging parliamentary delegations between the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations.
“The prime minister said that exchange visits of parliamentarians were essential to enhance bilateral relations and Pakistan had always made consistent and sincere efforts to improve relations with Afghanistan,” said an official statement. He reiterated that the peace and security of Afghanistan was critical for the peace and security of Pakistan, and that his government had always supported peace efforts by President Hamid Karzai. The prime minister said that Pakistan had extended full cooperation to the Afghan team which visited Islamabad to investigate the assassination of Afghan peace envoy Burhanuddin Rabbani.
