Cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan held the present leadership of both India and Pakistan responsible for not being able to resolve the Kashmir issue.
“The Kashmir issue can’t be solved unilaterally and I am hopeful that the present generation will change things,” the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief said here at the Kolkata Literary Meet of the Book Fair.
Khan suggested that leaders of both India and Pakistan should sit across the negotiation table to resolve the Kashmir issue.
“We are carrying a huge baggage of history. There is no leader who can take the risk for the future, neither in Pakistan nor in India.”
“The issue (Kashmir) needs to be resolved in a civilised way. The dividend of peace is enormous. Although it has not happened yet, I am hopeful that the issue will be resolved eventually,” he said.
Imran said, “It will happen because the new generation does not have any baggage of history. This is the time to lead and mould public opinion. The leaders should not follow public sentiments, but they should lead.”
Khan further said that people of both countries understand that friendship would benefit both of them.
“People of both Pakistan and India want friendship. But it is the leadership which creates problems. But I am hopeful the new generation in both the countries will change things,” he said.

Dare to blame Armies not leaders!
never try to blame the army.
this great fact for peace in the world, thankyou imran sahib
You seem to have become much wiser than all other Pakistanis. That is what good Jalsas can do.
I wish you good luck in the next elections. I am sure you will solve all India-Pakistan problems in just one over.
India-Pakistan need to take Kashmir issue as a humanitarian and justice issue not an issue of border and resources.
It will be enough if only Pakistan does it.
Imram for PM
Imran is the only leader we trust..
we indians want him to become the next pm of pakistan
Agree with you. But he should consult me.
Kashmir is a problem that can be solved by Pakistan alone. India is not needed. And the solution is most fair to Kashmiris and just to all stakeholders.
Here it is Mr. Imran Khan, if you did not think of it.
Pakistan should vacate the portion of the J&K state occupied by it by aggression in 1947. And, stop sending Jihadists across the border to carry on a proxy war. This would make it possible for Kashmiri Pundits to return to their homes. Kashmiris would then return to Kashmiriat of their forefathers, and Indian army will withdraw from the valley. The budget of the Pakistani army can be reduced to less than half. Poverty will vanish from Pakistan. Afghanistan will become peaceful again as there would be no need of "strategic depth".
See how easy it is? See how fair and just it is?
Just do it when you come to power, Mr. Khan, and become enshrined in history as SAVIOR OF KASHMIR.
I guess Mr. Wonderer belongs to the lousy class of Indians (and Pakistanis) who prefer to live in the past always! Perhaps, Mr. Wonderer keeps on wondering on hefty expense of Indian Intelligence agencies funding! As a country, Pakistan did a huge mistake of occupying East Pakistan with military force yet failed miserably!! Similarly, keeping a million Indian army in the valley is not the solution & will ultimately fall back on Delhi as rightly pointed out by Imran. It is better for the likes of people like Mr. Wonderer to understand that a new Pakistan has risen out of the ashes of the past where there are more than 80 freedom-of-media enjoying TV channels, an independent judiciary & a democracy that is strengthening itself. Pakistan is not India where public is miserably asking for activation a Lok Pal Bill & corrupt Indian politicians are denying them in sheer arrogance while they keep on minting their Swiss bank accounts. So plz stop crying all the "terrorist" blah blah & lets move forward with India withdrawing its army from the valley & governments of both countries & the reps of Kashmiri people sitting together to find out an ultimate solution !! It is better to do it quick as the Indian boom may not last beyond the next couple of years thanks to the corruption loot sale that Indian politicians have staged, massive inflation & rapid south-diving fall of Indian rupee!
I must correct you.
There is a world of difference between what Pakistani army was doing in East Pakistan (I saw it) and what Indian army is doing in Kashmir (I have seen it too). Pakistani army was killing its own citizens whereas Indian army is protecting Kashmiris from being captured by Pakistanis. It was done in 1947-48 and also in 1965 just as it is being done now.
The moment Indian army withdraws from Kashmir it will be gobbled up by Pakistan and turned into another North Waziristan. All Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs will be thrown out of their homes, where they have lived for centuries. This is just what happened to them (me included) in other parts of Pakistan in 1947.
I know India is a failing state with a failing economy, a corrupt regime and no future besides a cowardly Hindu religion, and Pakistan is a rising Super Power with the world’s best religion given by the LAST Prophet, the bravest army, a huge stockpile of nuclear weapons, and backers like the USA and China, but that is no reason India will back off from a matter of Principle.
You seem to be a wise person, and your advice to India is surely well intentioned, but you must not object if it is discarded with the contempt it deserves in light of the above reasoning.
Kashmir is part of India n will ever b ! jai Hind!
Meanwhile, all the rampant corruption, mis-governance & wasteful spending on military will keep on sucking the resources out of Indian economy already teetering on the verge of an end of a boom!! But, why shd the Indian middle class like SCB care except keep on bashing Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Sikhs, the Naxalites, the Chinese, the Christians ……, never establish normal relations with ur neighbors, keep on calling them "terrorists" and simultaneously, desperately strive for a H1B, keep looking for a bride in United Kingdom miserably and remain desperate to the core to leave Mother India on the first notice from somewhere in UAE or North America !! Jai Hind!!
You seem to be a wise person, and your advice to India is surely well intentioned, but you must not object if it is discarded with the contempt it deserves.
Folks! There are a number of UN resolutions, agreed to by both Pakistan & India, on addressing the Kashmir dispute – some of the oldest UN resolutions still not implemented. People on this board may want to review those.
Do you know why the 1948 UN resolution on J&K could not be implemented?
Pakistan refused to do what it was supposed to do. Pakistan had to vacate its aggression before plebiscite could be held. It never did so.
Kashmir issue to India is a Muslim issue. India is not western countries. As Sikhs, Muslim, Christians, Dalits have experienced, Hindu are usually peace loving but when time comes Hindus induldge in MOB VILOENCE. Whole India can become Gujrat overnight if any decision is taken on Kashmir which is not under the coverage of India Constitution. Pakistan is too weak to take on India and in coming years it is going to get weaker becuase of economic, political and social factors. Only option for Pakistan is to use nuclear option and that is no option.
So, you have no solution to suggest. Why not accept the solution I have given above?
Pakistan has no legal rights in Kashmir. The only reason it wants Kashmir is what you call "Muslim issue". East Pakistan was also a Muslim issue, and you know what happened there. There are more Muslims living in India than the population of Pakistan. Why do you not make them also a Muslim issue?
Please just be reasonable and solve the Kashmir problem as suggested by me above.
ALLAH kry ye issue solve hoo jaye. . .
I hate pakis
i hate india more than every country they are suckers and in future Insha Allah kashmir will be a part of pakistan ameen! PAKISTAN ZINDABAD HINDUSTAN MURDABAD
ap ziada jantay hain, ap keh raye hain to theek he hoga….
