6 more die, PMA rejects CMIT’s report

Six more patients succumbed to the mysterious disease due to Punjab Institute of Cardiology medicines while Pakistan Medical Association condemned the arrest of doctors by the Federal Investigation Bureau (FIA) and rejected the Chief Minister Inspection Team’s report on the issue on Tuesday. Per details, six more patients with strange symptoms admitted at General Hospital, Services Hospital and Mayo Hospital died due to the deadly pills. Separately, PMA condemned the FIA and the provincial government for arresting doctors even before the enquiry report was out and said these acts were part of a deliberate plan to cover up negligence. Under the chairmanship of Dr Ehsan ur Rehman, the meeting welcomed the suo motu notice taken by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary and welcomed the formation of judicial commission by the Lahore High Court.
The house rejected the report of CMIT and said it was against the basic principals of justice. The executive committee also decided to become a party in the pending petitions in Lahore High Court and Supreme the Court. PMA also clarified that it had not demanded the arrest of Punjab health secretary.
GOVT FIGURES: According to the spokesman of Health Department, 41 patients affected by reaction of PIC medicines have recovered and discharged from various hospitals during the last 24 hours thus raising the total number of recovered patients to 373 while 364 patients are under treatment in different hospitals. According to the information received from various hospitals, 46 patients have been discharged from Jinnah Hospital, 240 from Services Hospital, nine from LGH, 24 from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and 46 from Mayo Hospital. Meanwhile, 364 patients are still admitted in various hospitals including 56 in Jinnah Hospital, 21 in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 186 in Services Hospital, nine in Lahore General Hospital and 72 in Mayo Hospital. Moreover, three patients are under treatment in Allied Hospital Faisalabad and four in Shaikh Zayed Hospital Lahore. According to the report two patients each are under treatment in WAPDA Hospital Lahore and Nishtar Hospital Multan. Furthermore six patients have been recovered and seven patients are under treatment in Ittefaq Hospital while treatment is being provided to one patient in Doctors Hospital.
According to the spokesman, report regarding death of one patient each from Services Hospital and Mayo Hospital due to the reaction of the medicines during the last 24 hours had been received.
