11 killed in Upper Dir road accident

At least 11 persons, including two women and a child, were killed and nine others sustained injuries when a passenger van fell into a gorge here on Wednesday.
According to details, a Kohistan bound van with more than 30 passengers on board plunged into a ravine while negotiating a sharp turn in Sher Bangal area of Upper Dir.
As a result of the accident, eight passengers, including two women and a child, were killed on the spot while 12 others were injured. The local people and rescue teams reached the scene and started rescue operation.
The bodies and injured passengers were shifted to hospital where three more people succumbed to their wounds, raising death toll to 11. The condition of three other passengers is serious.
The injured passengers and eye witnesses said that the accident resulted due to over speeding and poor condition of road.
It should be mentioned that it was third road mishap in the area during last two months, and more than 30 persons have died in these road accidents.
