Transporters fined, warned to complete routes

Islamabad Transport Authority Secretary Khawaja Maqbool Mustafa on Tuesday conducted surprise traffic checking on various routes and imposed heavy fines on transporters for overcharging and not completing designated routes. According to details, Khawaja Maqbool Mustafa conducted surprise traffic checking on route Nos 122, 138 and 124 and imposed fines amounting to Rs 28,700 on public transport vehicles for the violations of designated routes and overcharging the passengers. He also challaned 38 public service vehicles for traffic violations. Khawaja Muqbool Mustafa said that traffic checking drive had been launched to check route violations and address the public complaints on the spot. He directed the transporters to complete the designated routes and charge fixed fares from commuters, failing which heavy fines would be imposed on the spot.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner (Industrial Area) Imran Ali Sultan conducted an anti-encroachment operation in the market of F-8 Markaz and removed encroachments from market. Seven outlaws held: The city police on Monday claimed to have arrested seven outlaws from various areas of the metropolis for their alleged involvement in crimes. Reportedly, the police recovered looted items, fake currency, one bottle of liquor, 1.470 grams of hashish and one 9-mm pistol from their possession. The accused were arrested from the areas of Golra, Shahzad Town, Sabzi Mandi and Bhara Kahu police stations. A police spokesman said cases had been registered against all the accused.
