The murder of Dr Syed Jaffer Mohsin indicates a new wave of targeted killings of doctors in Karachi, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Karachi President Dr M Idrees Adhi said on Monday. In the past few years, more than a 100 doctors have been killed in the city and there has been no clue as to why they were killed and who the killers were,” he said in a statement. Adhi expressed grave concern over the murder of Dr Mohsin, who was shot dead outside his residence.
“We have repeatedly been demanding concrete steps by the government and police to stop such killings, but unfortunately, nothing has been done so far,” he said.
“It looks as if there is no rule of law and writ of the government,” he added. He said these murders create anxiety among health professionals and their families. “There is no security for doctors, forcing them to leave the country,” he added.
“The PMA demand that a coordination committee of high-ranked police officials should be formed as was done in the past by the city’s police chief to investigate these killing and bring the culprits to justice.”
