The Hub River Road, which is being renovated at a cost of Rs 285 million, is an important highway that links Sindh with Balochistan and the timely completion of its repair work should be ensured, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan said on Monday. The governor was on a visit to the Hub River Road, accompanied by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed, Technical Services Director General Altaf G Memon, MNA Khawaja Sohail Mansoor, MPA Haneef Shaikh and other high officials.
“Eight new projects are being launched in Karachi that would be completed within the scheduled time,” the governor said.
He inspected the carpeting of the road and the material utilised in its reconstruction and said the road was used by heavy vehicles and that is why special engineering and material was used in its reconstruction. “The Hub River Road would be reconstructed in the next two months and solve the traffic jam problem in the area,” he added. The Karachi administrator while giving briefing the governor about the project said the carpeting of a six-km portion of the road would make driving convenient for commuters. He said 50 percent of development work has been completed and the three-lane highway has a length of 6.675-km and a 10.5-m width.
“New Jersey barriers will be installed in the central median and six U-turns will be made,” he added. The administrator further said commuters would be able to drive at 600km per hour speed on the road after its reconstruction. The governor directed the officials to provide alternate routes at the site and ensure prompt removal of construction waste.
