The Supreme Court (SC), in its spurious drugs suo moto notice case, ordered the concerned authorities to take action only after thorough investigation.
The apex court also ordered to release the doctors arrested on personal guarantees and asked the doctors not to give strike calls. The SC has sought report in the matter by February 06.
The Supreme Court will hear suo moto case of the deaths of more than 90 heart patients under treatment at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), either from spurious drugs or due to wrong prescription of blood thinning and lipid lowering medicines.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took notice of a note initiated by Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and issued notices to the Attorney General, Punjab Advocate General, federal and provincial secretaries, DG FIA and IG Punjab.
The chief justice directed the office to register the note as a petition under Article 184(3) of the Constitution as prima facie it seemed that the provisions of Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution had not been adhered to strictly.
The chief justice further directed that the case be listed before a bench, headed by Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, and issued notices to the Attorney General, the Advocate General Punjab, Secretaries Health of the Federal Government as well as Government of Punjab, PPO Punjab and DG FIA to appear before the bench and file a reply before the petition.

  1. The SC judges have sold their soul to the PPP, why have they all of a sudden initated cases against Punjab government and specifically PMLN. Some under hand deal has happened…shame on these PCO judges

  2. Reply to PML N…so long PPP govt has been at the rcvng end & when SC has taken notice of PML N govt in Punjab…same SC has become biased…?? very sad….Punjab CM has more than 15 ministries under him & health being one of them…..is there no capable person in PML N who cud head these ministries..?? & the result is for all to see….before dengue & now spurious drug case….?? from Khadim e Aala demoted to Khadim e Qatil e Awam….if he had a remotest conscience & morality, he shud hv resigned…but who cares….he is more interested in yellow cab,Sasti roti, danish schools & lap top…none of these will fill poor men`s needs & abv all CM has never attended PA sessions…..so….

  3. Taking a suo moto action and then ordering release of two accused does not befit the stature of judges of the most superior court. The logic and reasoning given by three member bench falls far short and disingenuous. I would expect judges to be more conscionable. They have to keep in mind their actions are seismic and create more ripple effect than the intended.
