Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Azmat Saeed highlighted on Monday the benefits of implementing the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR), which will reduce the burden of the judicial system and to deliver justice swiftly to people who face endless litigations on matters that are resolvable out of the courts. “The implementation of ADR in the courts is not alien to us and people in the region have benefited from this mode of reconciliation for centuries,” said the CJ. He was addressing an inauguration ceremony of a 7-day Judges Mediators Skills Training Programme (JMSTP) at a local hotel. Around 30 judges from the district judiciary are attending this programme.
Saeed said the practice of settling disputes out of court had dwindled with time and therefore, the results of the system were not satisfactory. He said these skills had to be regenerated in order to reduce the huge backlog of cases in courts. He advised the participants to take full benefit of this useful initiative launched by the Centre for Affective Dispute Resolution, UK and International Finance Corporation of Islamabad.
i think for the first time this important issue has been touched and give the due importance. all over the world arbitration and out of court settlements are encouraged. in some of the developed countries there is arbiration act. Even in courts pre trial conferences are conducted with the help of a judge who later does not preside over the matter when it comes up for hearing. ( civi and criminal matters )
