The renowned pragmatic analyst and Asia-affairs observer Mr Brzezinski writes in his new book, possibly a bestseller, “Strategic Vision” that the “post-US scramble will produce instability and turmoil.”
In the China-India-Pak triangle he urges a cautious US role, and particularly sees the American ambition of building India to be inimical to the US security interests in the near future.
The Indian economy is growing fast with burgeoning foreign exchange reserves and booming stock market painting a rosy picture of shining India. Along with it, India continues to build its military might made possible by ever improving Indo-US relations.
Defence collaboration with Israel has also contributed tremendously in strengthening Indian defence capabilities. Apparently India banks on utilizing its economic potential to realize its long-dreamt objective to become a superpower. It is also effectively using its diplomatic and military organs to fulfil US desire by acting as proxy against China.
A stage may come when India after transforming into a monster gets out of control of its mentor due to its largest democracy and the weightage being associated by the international community and the Indian political leadership alike to the public opinion.
Americans therefore need to define the limits and place appropriate checks on the unmanaged growth of military might of India.
Mr Brzezinski’s warning to the White House is therefore timely, and in Pakistan his book needs to be analysed carefully; its findings can be used in policymaking with particular reference to dealing with the ‘mighty’ neighbouring India.
