YDA calls off strike after negotiations over PIC drugs reaction scam

The Young Doctors Association (YDA), after successful negotiations with the Punjab government, called off its strike against the suspension and transfer of senior doctors in alleged medicines reactions death scam.
It should be mentioned that a delegation of YDA met Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) senior leader Senator Pervez Rasheed late Sunday night and discussed the issue of deaths due to drugs reaction and causes behind the whole affair.
The YDA delegation apprised the PML-N leader about reservations over the provincial government’s decision of suspending senior doctors. The YDA representatives told him that doctors were not responsible for purchasing medicines for hospitals and it was provincial government’s job.
Senator Pervez Rasheed assured the medics that none of them would face discriminatory action in the wake of drug reaction deaths occurred in Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), and said that responsibility of deaths would be fixed in the light of laboratory report of suspected medicines.
It should be mentioned that the YDA had announced on Sunday to observe a strike initially in outpatient departments of Lahore hospitals from Monday in protest against the arrest and suspension of doctors including medical superintendent of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology.
However, after holding successful talks, YDA called off the strike, resuming services in Lahore hospitals where more than 120 cardiac patients have lost their lives owing to the mystery drug reaction.
