The Beaconhouse School System organised an open day on Sunday, hosting workshops for the students’ parents to train them in helping their children develop leadership skills and inculcate reading habits.
The interactive sessions, titled “Little Leaders”, were held in 24 branches of the school across the country, including the BSS Walton Campus, where a large number of parents of children aged between three to eight years attended several workshops to understand the learning behaviour of children.
The workshops on the topics, “How to raise a leader”, “How child can love Maths”, “How child can learn through play” and “How to use technology with child” were conducted by experienced educationists and child psychologists.
Dr Imrana Lashari spoke on effective parenting and the role that parents can play in developing leadership skills among children.
While the parents attended the workshops, the children remained busy in a number of activities, including story-telling, jumping castle, pottery and handprint making.
An art fair and project exhibition was also arranged at the venue, exhibiting over 50 projects of students on several topics related to Social Studies, Science and English. Some projects were also based upon the dengue mosquito, its life cycle and breeding places. Other artworks included the themes truck art, energy conservation, religions and New Year resolutions for 2012.
Mr and Mrs Asad Kamal, the pare.nts of Hiba Kamal, said that they had been given very important tips for bringing up their child in a manner that she develops the skills necessary for becoming a successful person. They said that such workshops should be held regularly to educate parents on how to make their child’s academic and personal life complement each other so he/she learns more.
