The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s 20th constitutional amendment bill, which seeks creation of new provinces, cannot be passed by the National Assembly as it is not supported by the required majority in the House, senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani said on Sunday.
He was talking to the media at a reception hosted by Pakistan Democratic Party (PDP) Sindh President Bisharat Mirza.
Federal Minister Khurshid Shah, Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh President Shahi Syed, MQM leader Raza Haroon and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Ghous Ali Shah were also present on the occasion.
“The bill is not supported by one-third majority in the National Assembly and because of that, it will be impossible to pass it. This was not the proper time to move such an amendment,” Rabbani said.
Shahi Syed has said the MQM would not succeed in its campaign for new provinces.
Ghous Ali Shah said there is a need to unite the factions of Muslim League. “The spiritual leader of the Hur community Pir Sibghatullah Rashdi also wants this to happen and steps are being taken to make this possible,” he added.
