Another Shia man shot dead, this time a doctor

Another member of the Shia community fell prey to the wave to sectarian killings in the city as unidentified assailants gunned down a trustee of the Aal-e-Aba Imambargah in the Gulberg police station limits on Saturday.
Reportedly, Dr Syed Mohsin Jaffery was sitting outside his house located in Block 12, Federal B Area and reading a newspaper when unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at him and sped away.
The victim was rushed to the Dr Ziauddin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctors.
The body of the deceased was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and handed over to the family after post-mortem.
Gulberg SHO told Pakistan Today that Jaffery, 34, son of Syed Baqar Jaffery, had come out of his house in Block 12, FB Area when two attackers riding pillion on a motorcycle sprayed him with bullets. The victim suffered multiple bullets in his head and chest.
He said the police have recovered some empty 9mm bullet shells from the spot.
The SHO said that Jaffery was a doctor by profession and belonged to the Fiqah-e-Jafaria. “The deceased was also a trustee of an imambargah located in Gulberg,” he added.
The police officer was of the view that the incident may be linked with the recent sectarian killings in the city, but the law enforcers are investigating Jaffery’s killing from other angles also.
He added that the family is not cooperating with the police right now as they are busy with the funeral arrangements of the deceased, but “an FIR will be registered when the heirs give a statement”.
The metropolis has been hit by a spree of sectarian targeted killings during the week, which started when the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat’s legal adviser along with another party activist was shot dead in the Old City area. The next day, three Shia lawyers were gunned down while another survived the attack as gunmen targeted the car they were travelling in near the Pakistan Chowk.
