President Asif Ali Zardari, while addressing a gathering on Friday, said the politics of the PPP was not dependent on votes, a private TV channel reported.
The president added that they could change the destiny of Pakistan if the bureaucracy let them work and cooperated for the length of the government’s term.
“New conspiracies are hatched against us every day but we will foil all of them” the president said.
Speaking on the country’s economy, the president once again reiterated that Pakistan required trade not aid.
The president said the currency swap programme was initiated with Turkey and China, adding that other countries would be approached.
President Zardari, however, did mention that the State Bank was against this programme.

  1. There is a need to change the corporate culture in Pakistan. It is not good at all to let people home have committed a crime go free without any consequences only because they have returned the money.

The sentencing principle in the UK are such that those who plead guilty i.e. accept their guilt in committing the crime get a lesser punishment. They may not get a prison term but they can either have a community service or a probation order.

Police and Criminal Evidence (PACE) Act 1984 made far reaching changes in working of Police. This was followed by the Criminal Procedures and Investigation Act 1996 which also brought a big difference in the investigation after a crime had been committed in the UK. This was followed by Serious Organised Crime and Police Act came in 2005. The legislative changes have been an ongoing process.

Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) is an Executive Agency of the Home Office. The CRB service enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involve children or vulnerable adults. In 2007, the CRB processed 3.4 million checks.

The bottom line is that in Pakistan people should be aware of individuals who have a criminal record and they should be barred from holding a position of responsibility.

The present system in Pakistan needs a lot of tightening up. Loose screws in public (government) sector have caused untellable loss.

  2. …and who will foil the conspiracies hatched against Pakistan? Mr Zardari?
Our rulers are actually facilitating covert actions of foreign powers against Pakistan..

  3. "Trade not aid" sounds like a great slogan but Mr. President without electricity, gas, rail cargo service, security and with your ministers and cronies stealing the country blind, who in Pakistan would be fit to trade with the outside world. Traders have to have a level playing field to compete with others around the globe. Please go away somewhere and leave us alone.

  4. One thing one has to give credit to the President is his exceptionally strong nerves. Despite surrounded by hostiles in every state institution: military, judiciary, media -unbelievably- he's acted with so much forbearance. Can a human being have so much patience looks impossible. But when look at him one has to believe. Had anyone else, from out of Punjab, been in his place and this much disobedience shown to him by key figures in state institutions; he would have chosen to tread on a different way. Zardari, however, refused plainly to become "Sheikh Mujeeb" and decided to stay firmly on the ground no matter what. I personally believe he's fought hard for the sake of Pakistan. And its the "Bhuttoism" that has given him so much strength. God bless him. God bless Pakistan. And may he live a longer life happier life.

  8. Mr. President Pakistan is a country of many crises and religion-political state. Here media is playing a role of anti-government so no one can invest here and come to give new and innovative ideas. Pakistani people have not the political understanding that what is right and what is wrong. I think a constitutional amendment should have been tabled in NA to cut the tenure of government from 5 years to 4 years. Because Pakistani people are of the traditional nature not bear any government to complement its turn. After every four years we have new government by doing this we can make the country strong, prosper and economically favorable for foreign investors to invest here and also we can foil the conspiracies of our media oriented theories.
