Officials of Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) and Drug Testing Laboratory on Thursday refused, in written, to provide to Federal Investigations Agency officials the record of various pharmaceutical companies whose medicine have claimed the life of of dozens of people in the last few days. Sources privy to the investigations said that on Thursday, officials at PIC and Drug Testing Laboratory refused to cooperate with FIA officials, who said they had requested the concerned healthcare officials for the record on various pharmaceutical companies. However, they refused in writing, saying FIA officials should contact the health secretary if they needed the requested record.
The sources said the FIA investigators raided three chemical stores from where the management of Alpha Pharmaceutical Company used to purchase raw material for manufacturing medicine. The stores are located on Sheikhupura Road and were sealed by the FIA. The sources said two chemical stores were found closed, while one was found open during the raid. They said the chemical store was a “routine” facility and sold chemicals that could in no way considered raw materials for medicine manufacturing.
