Modern forensic lab to improve criminal justice system: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Friday that the modern forensic lab being set up in Lahore will play an important role in improving the criminal justice system
Addressing a high-level meeting at the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), the CM said that several sections of the forensic lab have become functional, while the remaining will also become operational soon. He directed that the most competent workforce should be selected for the lab and merit should be upheld strictly.
Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Member National Assembly (MNA) Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, Members Provincial Assembly (MPAs) Khawaja Salman Rafique, Saiful Malook Khokhar, Planning and Development chairman, home secretary, Lahore commissioner other concerned officers attended the meeting.
PFSA Director General (DG) Dr Muhammad Ashraf Tahir gave a briefing regarding the completion of the forensic lab, performance of various sections and other matters.
The CM said that the forensic lab of international standards had been established at a cost of billions of rupees, which will control crime and enable criminal investigation on scientific basis.
He said that arrangements had been made to train the experts abroad and it was now the responsibility of the institution to deliver results. He said that those who had received training abroad will now train the other lab staff. He said that crime scene investigation, computer forensics, pathology, polygraph reader, toxicology, trace chemistry, finger print investigation and other sections have been set up at the forensic lab.
