Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sabiha Mansoor left for UK on Friday to participate in the Leadership Training Programme to be held in Glasgow from January 29 – February 4, 2012.
Dr Sabiha said that the training was being organised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in collaboration with the British Council Pakistan and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education. 14 vice chancellors/rectors and heads of degree awarding institutions from Pakistan will participate in the programme.
The programme builds upon intensive study visits made by three groups of vice chancellors from Pakistan from 2008 – 2010 and a workshop of participants in Islamabad in 2009. The agendas for change, generated by these discussions, through group reports and personal action plans, will be pursued in this programme. The programme has been designed for a group of newly appointed vice chancellors of Pakistani public universities and senior officers of HEC to enable them to obtain a systematic understanding of the principal policy agendas in UK, especially in a Scottish setting of the government-university interface and of the governance and management of UK universities. Moreover, the participants would be able to identify the key issues in the management and development of Pakistani universities from a study of the parallel experiences and initiatives in Scottish/UK universities. The programme would also facilitate cooperation between the Scottish and Pakistani universities in education and research.
