Baloch militants kill five FC personnel

Baloch militants killed five personnel of the Frontier Corps Balochistan and took one hostage along with weapons and ammunition in a pre-dawn attack in Dera Bugti district on Thursday.
The banned Baloch Republican Army has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the reports, more than one dozen militants armed with sophisticated weapons raided a checkpost of security personnel located near Pat feeder canal, 20Kms from Sui.
As a result, four soldiers and a non-commissioned officer were killed on the spot by heavy firing. However, one soldier, who either got injured or remained unhurt, was captured by the attackers and was taken away.
The arms and ammunition of the security personnel were also taken away. The deceased were identified as Lance Naik Sher Ali and sepoys Abdul Rauf, Ayaz Khan, Abdul Wali and Ghulam Haider. However, the sepoy who was held hostage could not be immediately identified.
Security officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said according to the reports received from Dera Bugti, five sepoys and a non-commissioned officer were killed in the attack. However, the bodies of five of them were found at the checkpost while one was missing. The officials said the weapons taken away included four G3 rifles, a light machine gun and a pencil shooter.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Baloch Republican Army, Sarbaaz Baloch, called media from satellite phone and accepted responsibility for the attack, saying militants killed ten soldiers and captured one of them alive besides taking away their weapons and ammunition.
