American journalists visit Press Council of Pakistan

The International Centre for Journalists of USA delegation called on the Press Council of Pakistan Chairman Raja Mohammad Shafqat Khan Abbasi on Thursday.
The delegation is visiting Pakistan as part of the programme ‘US-Pakistan professional partnership in Journalism’. The main aim of the initiative is to build a long term partnership between the news organisations and content creators of the two countries and create a better understanding of Pakistani culture and traditions among foreigners.
Briefing the delegation about the council’s functions, the chairman said the Press Council of Pakistan was established to provide a forum to the general public to redress their grievances against newspapers and news agencies and to preserve the freedom of press.
Abbasi said the Ethical Code of Practice which is a part of the Press Council of Pakistan Ordinance 2002 is comparable with the ethical codes practiced in many countries.
