‘We’ll be watching you at Bara Dari car park’

Bara Dari car parking area will have 16 closed-circuit television (CCTV) and 12 fixed cameras to continuously monitor the movement of vehicles as the site is located near a high-security zone.
This was disclosed by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed on Thursday during a visit to the site while visiting different ongoing development projects in the city.
“With the area densely-populated and having five-star hotels and thousands of offices, parking of vehicles on roads and streets regularly causes traffic jams and the people face a lot of difficulties,” Syed said. “With the completion of the Bara Dari Car Parking Area – with a capacity of 600 cars in the two-storey plaza – this problem would be solved forever.”
The city administrator’s visit began from the Bara Dari car park at Polo Ground which is being completed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, with a cost of Rs 400 million. The construction of the old Bara Dari and the adjacent park is currently underway.
Syed said the KMC did not spend any amount on the construction of Bara Dari car park and the project was given on lease to a local firm on BOT basis.
Expressing doubts on the speed of construction, he directed the contractor to accelerate work on the project to complete it by February 15, or face penalties on a daily basis.
The administrator also directed the Parks Director General to carry out renovation works at Bagh-e-Jinnah (Polo Ground) and ensure availability of recreation facilities for the visitors.
During a visit to Sobhraj Maternity Home, the administrator inspected the newly-constructed five-storey building of the hospital.
Feroza Hashim Trust’s Hashim Shaikh informed him that the construction work will complete within the next 15 days, while the outdoor patient department in the basement and ground floor of the building has already become functional.
Syed instructed the department officials concerned to maintain cleanliness around the hospital.
He was accompanied on his visit by Municipal Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Technical Services Director Altaf G Memon, Parks and Horticulture Director Liaquat Ali Khan, Transport and Communication Executive District Officer Ateeq Baig, Health Services Senior Director Dr Nasir Javed, Sports and Culture Senior Director Rehan Khan, ZMC South Administrator Muhammad Raisi, ZMC South Municipal Commissioner Nauman Arshad, ZMC East Municipal Commissioner Shafiqur Rehman and District East Chief Engineer Mehmood Hussain Baloch among other officials.
