Students need to step into politics: minister

Dictators have always conspired to depoliticise students and we cannot have leaders if students do not step into politics, Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri said on Wednesday.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a book fair organised by the Study Aid Project of the NED University. Earlier, she inaugurated the fair.
Marri was accompanied by Fareed Ansari of the People’s Youth Wing, Arsalan and Abdul Rasheed of the Islami Jamiat Tulba on the occasion.
She visited the stalls at the book fair along with the management.
“Students have played an important role in the establishment of Pakistan and the negative activities of a handful of them cannot undermine their struggle,” she said.
“Dictators have defamed student politics by undemocratic means and today’s book fair made me feel how much students love books,” she added.
The minister hoped that student organisations would continue their efforts as this would increase political awareness among the masses and brighten the country’s future.
She recommended setting up of libraries at the grassroots level for the benefit of students so that they can continue their educational activities in a positive way.
