The Pakistan Post distributed prizes on Wednesday among the winners of the National Letter Writing Competition at the Ministry of Postal Services.
The Postal Services Federal Minister Sardar Al-Haj Mohammad Umar Gorgaij was the chief guest at the occasion.
The minister said while keeping pace with the changing communications market, the Pakistan Post was emphasising the use of new communication and information technologies to move beyond its traditional core postal business.
He stated that the Pakistan Post will adopt an IT driven approach more vigorously by computerising various operations rapidly to cope with the needs of the modern era. Following the computerization of the service, the customers will get information, service details and end-to-end disposal of their articles at the click of a button.
Gorgaij said: “Pak Post ensures the availability of an affordable, reliable and fast communication service for all the segments of the society.”
The minister and National Assembly Standing Committee on Postal Services members distributed prizes among the winners of the contest.
Cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 for first, second and third position respectively, were given out for three categories of different age brackets.
In addition, ten special cash prizes worth Rs10, 000 each were also distributed. A special prize of Rs 25,000 was awarded to the senior most letter writer.
In category ‘A’, Muhammad Furqan Zafar of the Balochistan Residential College received the first prize while Muhammad Shaheer of the Divisional Public School Sahiwal bagged the second prize and Sadia Sehar Abbasi from Thatta got the third.
In Category ‘B’, Atta Ullah from Nowshera stood first, Farzana Ajmal from Kala Gojran, Jhelum achieved second prize and Farzana Kamar from Bahawalpur remained third.
In category ‘C’ Jamil Adeeb Syed from Karachi got the first prize, Sardar Ali Khawaja from Islamabad secured the second position and Javed Mansoor Yousaf from Lahore remained third.
Muhammad Khuda Bux Farooqi from Chiniot received the special prize for the senior most letter writer.
National Assembly Standing Committee on Postal Services members, including MNA Mualana Abdul Malik, MNA Agha Muhammad Agha, MNA Dr Nelson Azeem, Ellah-ud-Din, Muzafar-ul-Mulk and Nuzhat Sadiq and committee chairman Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla attended the ceremony. Postal Services Secretary Raja Ikram ul Haq and Pakistan Post Additional Director General (Operations) Fazali Sattar Khan were also present on the occasion.
