Of Alexander, black days and quorum

The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday passed 14 bills which were returned by the governor for reconsideration. The Opposition kept criticising Treasury benches for adopting a wrong way of reconsidering and passing the bills.
Punjab governor returned 28 bills to PA for reconsideration and 14 bills were passed by the PA.
Sheikh Alaud Din on a point of order criticised the resolution of banning musical concerts in education institutes. PPP member Sajida Mir also came hard on the resolution and said people should not be deprived of cultural activities.
The hide and seek of MPAs continued in the House and opposition remained busy in pointing quorum. The Opposition remained busy in criticising Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah Khan for passing the bills haphazardly and termed his act a ‘black day’ in the history of PA. The opposition said current government had defeated the black traditions set by dictator Ziaul Haq. PPP MPA Shaukat Basra while teasing the law minister said Rana Sana Ullah was a conqueror of the Punjab Assembly and he had broken the records of Alexander the Great and Zaheer ud Din Babar by passing 14 bills in one day. Another opposition member Ehsan ul Haq Nolatia said that it was astonishing how PA had passed 14 bills in one day. “If a Supreme Court judge says that he disposed off 1,500 cases in one day the do you think he has done justice? Same is the case for PA,” he lamented.
Rana Sana Ullah Khan said that after 18th Amendment, the concurrent list had been abolished and the provinces could legislate.
