Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday strongly criticised Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani for retracting from his statements time and again, advising the prime minister “to think before speaking”.
“The statements of prime minister have become a joke and have insulted the country all over the world… he should think before he speaks,” Nisar said while talking to reporters.
He was reacting on Gilani’s recent statement in which he backtracked from his earlier stance on submission of the replies of the army chief and the ISI DG in the Supreme Court in memo case. Two weeks after calling the army chief and the ISI DG’s replies “unconstitutional and illegal”, Gilani said the top military brass had done nothing unconstitutional. Nisar said the prime minister was humiliating the sanctity of his office by issuing such unjustified statements for the past few weeks. “It’s a joke with parliament and the nation that the premier issues confusing statements and later retracts under unknown fear or any deal,” he added.
The opposition leader also announced that the PML-N would not become part of any constitutional amendment.
Nisar said neither there should be any clash between institutions nor any deal. “We must think beyond our personal and political interests,” he added. He urged Gilani to explain his remarks before the legislature. “Gilani should think twice and at least consult with his legal experts before making statements”. He said the opposition did not want to influence the election schedule but the accountability bill and formation of an independent election commission were pivotal to have free and fair elections in the country.
The PML-N central leader said the government was a hurdle in the process of free and fair elections in the country. “To have free and fair elections in the country, it is important that we all stand united… whosoever tries to rig the elections will be an enemy of the country,” he added.

  1. Now when this has become obvious that General Pasha -head of ISI- plotted Memogate episode to somehow dislodge current elected Govt., coming of pawn opposition to front to say something in support of Military establishment is nothing but an attempt to win sympathy of GHQ.

Until now PML(N) leadership had been the most formidable critic of Pakistan military within the country. On each and every forum it never let chance go by where it could have severely criticized our Generals. Nawaz Sharif , during election campaign of Azad Kashmir, held ISI responsible for trouble in Indian held Kashmir, for which Indian ambesidor had especially thanked him. When Osama Bin Laden was killed in Abotabad last May Nawaz Sharif, again speaking in Pakistan's enemy language, accused Pak military of hiding something from the world.

Its pure politics. Politics of no principal. May be this is why large chunk of people supporting to PMLN have moved away from them. For PML(N) has no standing on any issue at all. Its leadership says one thing one day. The second day is for it to back off. Like, forexample, Nawaz Sharif in London while signing COD during his exile had confessed that all cases against Asif Ali Zardari were political motivated; now he has declared that all those cases are valid.

This is shortsightedness. And , sorry to say, PMLN leadership is shortsighted. It has to change its course of changing position quickly on issues that matter; if it really wants people to trust them again. otherwise this will remain an illusive dream that Nawaz Sharif will ever win election to come into power.
