Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman said on Wednesday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif had agreed in principle to form an acceptable caretaker government that would hold general elections in the country, but added that the term “early elections” should not be used because it was not possible in the current situation.
He told reporters at Quaid-e-Azam International Airport that currently Sharif was out of the country and when he returned, all opposition parties would sit down to find a resolution to the caretaker government issue.
“The words ‘early elections’ or ‘election in a hurry’ should not be used because the Election Commission of Pakistan itself clarified that more than 37 million voters in the voters lists were suspicious. It is necessary for transparent elections that electoral rolls are fair and accurate. We want transparent elections,” he added.
Fazl said the public meeting of his party on January 27 at Mazar-e-Quaid would be historic. “We will not demand security from the government because it is the duty of the government to provide security. There is no need to apply for it,” he said.
He said the government had accepted the stance that there was no foreign policy. “We are proceeding towards an independent foreign policy. The notion of a one-sided foreign policy is coming to an end,” said Fazl. In a statement on the Republic Day of India, Fazl also urged Pakistan’s archrival to give the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir by pursuing democratic norms.
