The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has started the registration of eunuchs in Khanewal division for computerised national identity cards (CNIC), and their inclusion in electoral rolls, a local NADRA official said.
NADRA representative Tauseef Ghauri and Khanewal Assistant Election Commissioner Javed Iqbal Chatta told reporters that so far 56 eunuchs were available for registration and 12 of them had been registered.
Ghauri said the NADRA initiative was in compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders on early registration of eunuchs. He said the authority had created a separate gender category of “shemale” in the registration forms according to the apex court’s orders.
Rani and Khalid, the representatives of eunuchs, praised the initiative and thanked the chief justice of Pakistan for allowing them the right to cast vote.
