Announcing a countrywide protest, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Yasin Azad on Wednesday appealed to all bar associations of the country to boycott court proceedings today (Thursday) against the targeted killing of three lawyers near Karachi city courts. In a statement, Sindh Bar Council Vice Chairman Iftikhar Javed Qazi also announced a province-wide protest, saying that the lawyers’ fraternity will boycott court proceedings and hold general body meetings.
Condemning the killings of lawyers, Karachi Bar Association President Mehmoodul Hasan and Malir Bar Association President Ashraf Samo also supported the strike call. Endorsing the call of boycott from the lawyers’ community, former president of Sindh High Court Bar Association Justice (retd) Rashid A Rizvi said the government has failed in performing its constitutional role of protecting the life of citizens, as every citizen, including lawyers, are unsafe in the country.
