The National Committee on English (NCE) Wednesday put forward recommendations for technical and professional grooming of English language faculty of colleges across Pakistan. The second meeting of the NCE was held at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Secretariat under the auspices of HEC’s English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR) Project. The committee also recommended expanding the scope of the project in terms of bridging the gap of language and literature teaching faculty.
The main purpose of the meeting, presided over by Dr Saeeda Asadullah, was to address ELT related areas to facilitate English language teachers and forward recommendations for smooth and proper functioning of ELT in higher education institutions. The committee comprises distinguished experts from all over the country.
The members shared their views regarding quality of English language teaching in the higher education institutions.
After a presentation on achievements as well as outcome of first NCE meeting, the members discussed different policies and implementation strategies to facilitate the faculty members at universities and colleges. HEC Director General (Learning Innovation) Noor Amna Malik appreciated efforts, support and professional commitment of the NCE members for improvement of ELT standards in the country. The ELTR Project was launched on the recommendation of NCE in July 2004 to bring qualitative improvement in English language teaching and learning.
