Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters on Thursday that eight suicide bombers had entered the federal capital and Rawalpindi, and rejected the impression that sectarian and targeted killings were rampant in Karachi, saying a third force was involved in causing the deterioration of law and order in the provincial capital of Sindh.
Malik said the recent killings in Karachi were not sectarian or targeted but the work of a “third force”, adding that efforts were being made to identify the criminals. He said terrorists sent from Gilgit and Miranshah were involved in creating a law and order situation in Karachi. He said following reports of possible terrorist activities, security had been tightened further across the country to foil any plans of anti-state elements.
The interior minister said some elements wanted to fan sectarianism, especially to destabilise Karachi, which was the economic hub of the country. He appealed to the victims’ families to demonstrate patience and be calm. He said no stone would be left unturned in the efforts to arrest the culprits involved in the killings of innocent people.
Talking about the deaths caused by spurious drugs in Lahore, he said an investigation had been launched to determine who was responsible. He said the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Punjab Police would jointly probe the matter. He warned of stern action against drug inspectors and health officials of Punjab and others found involved in the matter.
He said six pharmaceutical companies were allegedly involved in the case, out of which the chief executive officers of three, namely Muhammad Waseem Chaudhry, Chaudhry Nadir Khan and Dr Muhammad Tahir Azam, had been arrested. He said efforts were underway to arrest the owners of the remaining companies.
He said drug inspectors of FIA Lahore had conducted raids on three pharmaceutical companies including Pharma Wise Laboratories, Al-Falah Pharma (Pvt) Ltd and Mega Pharmaceutical Ltd in Lahore, and seized allegedly spurious drugs (Alfagril tablets, Solprin tablets and Carovatin tablets) from their stores.
The minister said these companies had allegedly supplied the spurious drugs to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), which paid their bills after test reports from Drug Testing Laboratory, Lahore. “The relevant testing reports have been requisitioned from the laboratory,” Malik added.
He said further that samples of spurious drugs had been sent to the Central Drug Testing Laboratory, Karachi for independent test reports through federal drug inspectors.
Malik said an autopsy of one of the victims of the drug could be done if required. He stressed the need for qualified pharmacists at every medical store, and said nobody should be allowed to do business without the required qualification. Replying to a question, Malik said 13 people were arrested over allegedly getting a copy of his Computerised National Identity Card illegally from the databank of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). One of the arrested people had confessed to the crime, he added.

  1. Oye SIALKOT k kisi NAI ( BARBER) ki aulad………………

Are you saying once again CATAGORICALLY………………..

  2. Mr. Rehman Malik you are lucky person. it is only in Pakistan where without any merit you enjoy the perks you are enjoying and can issue statments of your choosing with impunity.

  3. Rehman Malik true to his low IQ is back again with a preposterous statement once again. He hasn't issued this statement for the first time but has been doing so in the past. When the whole world was pointing fingers at Altaf Hussain and his MQM for spate of target killings not long ago, this clown has been issuing statement saying there is a third force operating in Karachi. His all energies had been to save the backside of Altaf Hussain. He must be crazy to issue statements absolving MQM murders of heinous crimes.

I fully agree with Dr Mirza that his name should be shaitan Malik. He is an MQM man and implanted in the PPP government for the sole purpose of letting MQM thugs off the hook.
