Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday asked the students to join her in working for the betterment of women in the province, adding that the government was doing its best to provide sports facilities to girls.
Addressing the Queen Mary College 103rd Annual Sports Day, she appreciated the sports competitions organised at the college. Highlighting the importance of sports activities for girls, she said that 14 playgrounds had been sanctioned and dedicated especially for female students.
She said that the government was facilitating the female students through the air-conditioned Pink Bus Service, adding that the government was distributing 300,000 laptops among students to equip them with better educational opportunities.
Maryam said that the Punjab government would organise sports events in all divisions and districts to find the new talent. She said that the necessary financial resources had been allocated for this purpose.
The sports day started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. The annual Sports report was presented by the Queen Mary College Principal Prof Dr Irfana Marium. The students took part in several sports activities, including karate, PT show, march past, ring race, relay race, zig-zag race, aerobics and gymnastics. Moreover, a game of musical chairs was played by the guests.
The day concluded with the prize distribution ceremony. The college administration has announced a holiday on January 25, 2012 (today).
